🌸 The Magnolias Are Blooming 🌸
The 2023 Masters Tournament is among us. Prepare for four days of bombed drives, pure irons, hole-outs, 3 putts and and a potential 56th Green Jacket recipient. The Iconic Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, will host the 87th edition of The Masters Tournament this week where 88 golfers will battle for the coveted Green Jacket in the 1st major of the year.
⛈️ The Weather Report ⛈️
Scattered thunderstorms and rain showers are anticipated for Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with high temperatures ranging from 54 to 90 degrees, according to Weather Channel. Expect a wet course which should bring slow greens into consideration. Golfers who struggle with the short stick may see their value rise but, knowing Augusta, there are no “gimmes”. We expect tough pins all week to compensate for the conditions.
🗞️ The Plot Thickens 🗞️
There are no shortage of storylines this year. We know PGA Commissioner Jay Monahan could not be more excited about the prospects of these captivating narratives. 15-time Major winner Tiger Woods competing, Rory Mcilroy chasing the career Grand Slam, LIV vs. PGA civil war, Jordan Spieth’s Easter Sundays, Scottie Scheffler making golf look easy, and a pack of emerging stars that are chasing greatness with the likes of Burns, Homa, Young, Finau, Xander, JT, Cantlay, Rahm, and Morikawa.
🐐 G.O.A.T In the Making? 🐐
Can we just take a second to appreciate Scottie? The 26-year-old has won both the Phoenix Waste Management Open and Players Championship already in 2023 and makes shooting 64 look elementary. Listen, golf is hard folks, but Scottie seemed to have missed that memo. Just ask Si Woo Kim who recorded a 13 on the par-3 11th at TPC Southwind two years ago.
🗑️ Retirement Fund Liv Golf Tour 🗑️
LIV update here. I heard Brooks Koepka just won at Orange County National Golf Club's Crooked Cat Course in Orlando Florida this past week. Here is a link to the Golf Now tee times for Crooked Cat - $99 for Saturday morning. My point here is that LIV tournaments are being held at municipal golf courses. No one wants them due to reputational risk. I’m a strong believer in the “practice is how you play” mantra and I can’t even begin to describe the contrast between a Koepka win at Crooked Cat versus a 36-hole deathmatch win where Sam Burns ousted Cam Young at Austin Country Club. Moral of the story here is fade LIV golfers. I love Mullet Man Cam Smith, the lefties grew up on Phil, and no one appreciates DJ bombing it 340 centre cut more than me, but I don’t believe these guys are capable of winning at the Masters.
Now, onto the alpha. Did I mention that SX.BET has outrights, player props, and top finishes this year? Well, they do, and we could not be more excited. Here is our betting strategy for the 2023 Masters. I like to think of it as an overall investment portfolio, combining diversified assets to limit risk and maximize return. I will categorize the golfers into blue-chips and mid-caps then make picks to create an overall portfolio of horses to follow throughout the next 4 days. I honestly think that the top golfers in the world are so strong right now that the Sunday leaderboard will literally be Rory, Rahm, Scottie, Spieth, and Colin.
Blue Chips
Scottie Scheffler, Rory Mcilroy, John Rahm, Jordan Spieth, Colin Morikawa
All these golfers have displayed time and time again that there is a reason they are the best in the world. Scottie proved his ability at the 2022 Masters and has continued his reign as the #1 golfer since. Rory is hunting his first Green Jacket to round out his hall of fame career. Rahm is a force to be reckoned with, with his power off the tee, his masterful iron play and efficient putting. Spieth and Morikawa will both need to play at the top of their game to maintain their blue chip status, but if these two player are on, there is no limit to what they can do on the course any given round.
Mid-Caps
Cameron Young, Max Homa, Sam Burns, Sungjae Im, Tony Finau, Jason Day, Xander Schauffele
All these golfers have shown signs of brilliance in prior Masters appearances or have been extremely hot this year. These are picks where you can find great value if they are able to grind their way into a top 10 finish. Outrights on these golfers will reward you handsomely but expect an uphill battle against the strength of the blue chips
